Passion Week Archaeology

Featured Video Play Icon

This weekend brings us to the time of pondering and celebrating the two most important events in the course of human history – the death and resurrection of Christ.  Today’s video shows some of my favorite archaeological discoveries that help to solidify the historical context behind those events.

Praise be to Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God and Risen Savior!!!

Blessings,

Joel

    Joel and company,

Thank you again for yet another excellent visual correspondance between the message of the Bible and the tangible, verifiable facts of history and archaeology. Jesus Christ is indeed risen from the dead offering all men reconcilliation with God the Father and forgiveness of sins. What an honor to be adopted into the very family of God and to extend worship to our Creator, Redeemer and Comforter. Come quickly Lord Jesus.

If you believe that Jesus the Christ has died and is risen and sit beside His Father in Heaven, then you must also admit He has done it all for you……..

    Joel,

When I think about you and your friend surviving as young men trekking across treacherous jungle full of deadly creatures, peoples, and disease, traversing forbidding mountains, paddling raging rivers in a rubber canoe, and tumbling over impossible waterfalls, to where you are now, in war torn Israel documenting the very proofs that GOD IS and Jesus is Savior, it makes my hair stand on end. Literally. As I watched this latest clip, I was gripped once again by affirmation from the Holy Spirit that the work you do there is vital. Our Father has brought you through every trial, even the seemingly senseless hurtful battles fought on “friendly” ground, to train you up for exactly where you are and what you’re doing. We continue to pray for you brother, you and your precious family. Be encouraged! He is risen indeed! This clip shall be a valuable tool for reaching the lost and the doubters as it goes viral on the net.

With the love of the Lord and from my soul,
    anne

What an incredible video! Thanks for making it.
What is the music you used for the video?

    Hi Joel,

Fascinating video. I don’t have much experience with the variety of artifacts that have been discovered and catalogued.

Question, though (so that I can answer questions that might be posed). How or why would there be a bone fragment left behind, since the body of Jesus was resurrected in-full?

Perhaps answering the question (myself), we never read of any descriptions of those who saw Jesus (post-resurrection), with the nails still intact. Rather, Jesus invites Thomas…

“Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.”

In other words, it makes sense that the ‘nails’ would be left behind. That a nail might have a broken fragment of bone attached to it also makes perfect sense.

Thank You Joel. I will be seeking to learn more about your work.

    Happy Easter! His IS RISEN!

Thanks for your comment, Scott. To clarify, the point that the nail through the ankle bone verifies is the practice of Roman crucifixion – NOT showing the actual bones of Jesus. So, when the Bible describes that Jesus and other Jews were crucified on a cross with nails…this archaeological discovery confirms that practice. And you are right, in that Jesus did bodily rise from the dead, so there are no bones to be found. Our video The Jesus Tomb Unmasked deals with the false claim that the “bones of Jesus” have been discovered.
      Blessings,
      Joel

Hi, love your stuff, would love it even more if I could travel with you but I suppose someone has to attend to Canada and the US 🙂 Anyways here is a thought that perhaps has never crossed the minds of many – when Christ rose again He left the linen and the headwraps right where He was laying but what happened to the nails? Are we to assume that they had to pull the nails out of His bones to get Him off the cross?

    Thanks for your great work
